POMPEI
Pompeii which was
buried under cinder from 79 A.D. in one of the
most disastrous volcanic eruptions, today provides
us with first class evidence of how the way of
life was in a Roman city during the time of the
Roman Empire. This site is located in an extremely
attractive setting and your guide, who will meet
you in Pompeii will not only make this city become
alive for you but she can rebuild the city before
your very eyes. The Roman Forum, the Basilica,
the town centre, the stores, the fast food places,
the Stabian Baths with their separate men/women
sections, the swimming pools, the hot and cold
rooms which are in an amazingly excellent state
of preservation, this is all there to be lived,
enjoyed and understood, learn how life over the
centuries or should we say way of life has changed
very, very little….What to some people may
be a few old rocks and stones is in fact one of
the most beautiful cities of a past Roman Empire
(tour duration: 4 hours).
VESUVIUS
Enjoy exploring
the famous Vesuvius Volcano today with your local
expert guide and learning about one of the most
active Volcano’s in the world…
To visit Naples and not the Volcano does not seem
right. Situated just 12 kms south east of the
city and being an important part of the Neapolitan
landscape, Vesuvius is a must on anyone’s
activity. Vesuvius is the only example of an active
volcano in continental Europe and is considered
by many to be one of the most dangerous in the
world: Why??? Its not the volcano that is dangerous,
it’s the people…they chose to live
too near to it. Learn many curiosities and history
and the habits of this famous landmark, its eruptions,
the forecasts for the future and how it conditions
the life and history of the vast area which surrounds
it. Due to the nature of the terrain and walking
involved (approximately 20 minutes walk UPHILL
from vehicle to crater) we recommend that this
tour is suitable only for those wearing suitable
walking or tennis shoes and who are reasonably
fit.
HERCOLANEUM
Enjoy a
very special introduction to one of Italy’s
most important archaeological sites – that
of Herculaneum…..
Just a short drive from Naples, Herculaneum like
Pompeii was badly damaged in the Earthquake of
62. It then had to deal with the eruption in 79
falling victim to the rain or ash and Lipilli
however we can still enjoy this ancient city.
The present state of the excavations are very
different to those in Pompeii. Herculaneum is
much smaller, it is thought that it adhered more
closely to the traditions inherited from the Samsonite
period in its customs and building practices.
As we explore these ruins and the ancient city
becomes alive we learn to understand that the
main industries here were once agriculture and
fishing, learn how we can understand that the
lower classes once mingled freely with the representatives
of families of ancient lineage, learn about the
leisure time and entertainment that once existed
here and much, much more.
